Birmingham Libraries won the toss and elected to bat.
After a good start from Rajesh (2 maidens from 3 overs for 7 runs) and Fahad (2 wickets from 3 overs for 14 runs), Birmingham Libraries were struggling on 21 for 2 from 6 overs. Andy and Tony (a wicket maiden) both picked up further wickets to put the pressure on the batting team but Abdul had obviously seen Tony coming and hit him for 19 runs from one punishing over including 4 fours. Andy faired little better as the Libraries started to rattle up a fairly decent score with 76 for 4 from 13 overs. Dez and Rob finished off the remaining overs and very nearly the remaining batsmen taking a further 5 wickets between them, Dez with 3 for 12 from 3 overs including a double wicket maiden and Rob picking up 2 wickets for 28 runs from his 4 overs. Birmingham Libraries finished on 115 for 9 from their 20 overs.
Haroon and Anshuman went out to open and got Mermaids off to a solid start scoring 43 from the first 7 overs and being right on the run rate before a mini collapse saw Anshuman (16) and Tony (golden - need I say more!) go in successive balls from a tricky leg spinner. The run rate slowed considerably for the next 2 or 3 overs before Haroon and Greig pushed the giant accelerator button once more and started knocking the ball all over the ground in a partnership of 67 from 11 overs. Haroon went with the first ball of the final over for a commendable 64 (9 fours) for his 3rd half century of the season and Fahad joined Greig in the middle with 6 required for victory from the remaining 5 balls. A dot ball followed by two singles left 3 needed from the last two balls. A further dot ball left 3 required from the final ball. Greig went for the big slog and skied it back over the bowlers head and just short of a fielder who kindly slipped over, allowing Greig (24 not out) and Fahad (1 not out) to get in for a second run to end the game with the scores tied.
Mermaids claimed the win by virtue of losing less wickets (hooray).
